05 / PACKAGING & VOLUME

The box has a specification—and a freight cost.

A sleeve price alone misses the case, inner pack, master carton and pallet. Compare protection, channel requirements and shipping dimensions together.

THE PURCHASING QUESTION

The reality

Retail packaging and export protection solve different problems. Artwork and paper weight describe only part of the package. The tool, fitted case, cushioning, carton and pallet need to work as a system for the intended distribution route.

Packaging also changes the space and weight you ship. Express services may charge using the greater of actual and volumetric weight. Ocean LCL quotations can use a weight-or-measure basis and minimum charges. The applicable carrier, service and quotation control the calculation; one express divisor is not a universal freight rule. Measure the packed shipment, not the bare tool.

QUICK REFERENCE

Compare the packed carton.

The same 50 cartons, with one dimension changed. These are volume calculations before palletization.

25 cm deep

40 × 30 × 25 cm · 50 cartons

1.5 m³

50 × 0.40 × 0.30 × 0.25

35 cm deep

40 × 30 × 35 cm · 50 cartons

2.1 m³

50 × 0.40 × 0.30 × 0.35

Illustrative calculation, not a freight quotation. Chargeable volume, pallet space, gross weight, minimums and route conditions still need confirmation.

BEFORE YOU ORDER

Three checks before ordering.

  1. Record the packaging layers, units per inner and master carton, external dimensions, gross weight and pallet plan. Distinguish sample estimates from confirmed packed measurements.

  2. Confirm artwork revision, barcode content and scan checks, markings and retention of accessories. Agree any package tests appropriate to the product and route.

  3. Ask the forwarder which weight, volume, minimums and handling charges apply. Compare packaging options with protection and freight included, not just the printing price.

PUTTING IT INTO PRACTICE

What HEHE coordinates.

HEHE aligns packaging specifications with suppliers and the intended sales channel, then records agreed markings and packed measurements. We can compare practical alternatives without treating the thinnest carton as the best saving. Any transport test must have an agreed method and scope; a photo of a closed box is not a test report.
